Say It Clearly

A cultivated life leaves room to be surprised.
We decide quickly.
Whether we like a place.
What kind of person someone is.
Whether a book is for us.
Whether we already know how a conversation will go.
Sometimes we are right.
But certainty can become a habit.
Curiosity asks for very little. It does not require us to agree, to become friends, or even to change our minds.
It only asks us not to close the door too early.
To listen for another minute.
To order something we have never tried.
To return to a book we once dismissed.
To ask one more question instead of preparing our answer.
There is a particular pleasure in discovering that our first impression was incomplete.
Not wrong, necessarily.
Just incomplete.
Perhaps that is part of cultivation too: allowing the world to remain slightly larger than our opinion of it.
So this week’s Midweek Return is simple:
Stay curious a little longer.
About a person.
A place.
An idea.
See what happens before you decide you already know.
Rooted in Depth. Radiating Light.
